This video came out a couple of months ago and it is worth watching in this political climate. Listen good he talks real fast but it is a lot of good information.
On Wendesday, March 31 the Tea Party Express bus will be in Grand Junction. Events start at 9AM at Sherwood Park. Bus to arrive at 10AM. Mrs. T. and I will be there and we can't wait to see you all there! For my friends on the other side of hill, the Tea Party Express will be in Denver on the West steps of the State Capitol at 4pm.
For those who like a little light 70's music (Mrs. T.). These are good ones...
Our great country took some hits this week, with the passage of Health Care, Karl Marx Barrack Obama easing sanctions on Iran while ignoring one of our best allies in Israel. I felt like I needed this little song and maybe you do too...
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
It's a single sentence that is 45 words long and has become a central backbone to our Constitution, the First Amendment to the Constitution.
There are limitations of course, to the First Amendment like you cannot yell "FIRE!" in a crowded movie theater or have your assembly on a busy airport runway. For the most part you can say or write anything you want in this country. For that we are blessed.
I believe that other people around the world don't really understand how good free speech is and how it can cultivate ideas. I was watching a Canadian reporter on FOX, talk about the Ann Coulter incident (mentioned above). She said that they (Canadians) had limitations on "free speech". That certian things could be deemed "hate speech" in their country. She went on to say "that is the way we like it." It took me a second to grasp the idea that some people actually like the idea that they are not allowed to say what they want (even if considered "hate speech"). The only thing I could figure is that they must not have ever had true free speech to know the difference.
I write this blog post without fear of being fined, jailed or put to death. There will be no soldiers or police coming for me. I can look up information on the Internet. I can disagree with the government. I can give a speech at a University, I can assemble with other people and protest. I can go to the church I want, when I want. I can petition the government. I am free and I owe it to the men who wrote that one simple Amendment.
I read a bumper sticker once that said "If you can read this thank a teacher." That may be true but, if you are reading that sticker, while it is attached to an automobile for the whole world to see, you may want to thank a founding father.
Gene, at Living the Grand Life, wrote in his post Get up - get moving , "One battle is not the whole war. The Socialist Democratic Party won this round, it's not over. Don't feed into gloom predictions about how hard it is to overturn entitlement legislation. That would be like a general fighting the last war." I could not agree more with that paragraph.
There are currently lawsuits being filed all over the country about the health care law's constitutionality. There are amendments to the reconciliation bill being proposed in the Senate. So what can we do as average citizens? VOTE
The most effective method that we as citizens have to change anything is, through the ballot box. So when the primary election comes around (in Colorado that is in August), take the time and vote for the candidate that best matches your values and principles. When the general election comes around, vote.
Let me take a second and explain why even the elections that seem "less important" are very important in these times. Of course, the government that is closest to you will change your life the most. Your school board will decide everything from when your kids go to class and how much that new school addition will cost. The city council decides when your road gets paved or what you pay in sales taxes, and so on...
The coming election in November is important to start the cleaning out of the House of Representatives. What I believe is more important is, the elections of your state legislatures and Governors. These state elections will decide who in your state is doing the redistricting that will occur with the completion of the 2010 census. Just because your state does not gain or loose a congressional seat, does not mean the district boundaries do not change. They are all redrawn to reflect the population changes. Those district changes are how a political party can control the House of Representatives.
Don't let up
Don't let your elected officials breath. Question everything they are doing. They have built a level of distrust among the American people, and we need to hold them accountable. There will be more garbage being throw at us in the coming months; like amnesty, cap and trade, and card check. They have woke a "sleeping giant" in the American people. I don't know about you but I get mad when I am woke up.
Educate yourself
Everybody hated that civics class you took in junior high (middle school for the younger folks). It was boring and and they "made you take it" . There was a question you may have asked back then; "When will I ever use this class?" The answer is; you can use it now. I don't suggest that you become a political geek like me, but I do believe you should refresh yourself on the basics. I look at it like this: If I never learned to count money, I would never know if somebody was ripping me off. Same principle with politics, if you don't know the basics you don't know if they are stealing your liberty.
Get informed
Learn what is going on from multiple places. This is a great age of communication. Use it. Don't believe one source about an issue. One person does not have all the answers. Read all the good and bad. The more information you have, the better decisions you can make that match your values.
Remember the passage of the health care bill is just a battle, not the war. Rahm Emanuel once said, "Never let a crisis go to waste." Well the socialist takeover of our government is a pretty big crisis, so let's not let it go to waste. Get educated, get informed, and don't letup until we vote these crooks out of office.
An open letter to the Liberal Democrat Congressman,
I am an American Citizen. I have been guaranteed the Freedom of Speech by the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. Before March 21, 2010, I used that freedom, to let you know that I was not in favor of the socialized health care plan you were forcing through Congress. Me and millions of other American Citizens told you repeatedly we did not want this health care plan. You ignored us. We protested. You ignored us. We marched on Washington D.C. You ignored us. We attended town halls. You ignored us. We wrote letters, e-mails and faxes. You ignored us. We called. You ignored us. We have done everything in our power to let you know this plan was a bad idea. You REFUSED to listen.
I have studied the Constitution and for a long time and I have read about the three separate branches of government. Over the last year I have realized a fact that isn't tought in our schools. There are actually four branches of government. The branches we learn about in schools are; the Executive Branch, the Judicial Branch, and the Legislative Branch. The forgotten branch of government is the People's Branch.
I am a member of that People's branch of government and I am pissed off. You have ignored the People long enough. America is Rising. If you were one of the 279 members of Congress that voted to approve this bill, your political career is in grave danger. You have made our health care weaker, you have made our dollar weaker, you have made America weaker.
You stole our liberty while lying, bribing, and stealing votes. All for your own personal gain. Remember the 1994 election? America is Rising.
John Adams wrote in 1765: "Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood." I will not let the liberty, given to me by my Creator, or earned from the blood of my forefathers; be trampled on by an elected politician. America is Rising.
I am a hardworking honest American and You STOLE MY LIBERTY! You WILL be replaced. You have doubted the will of the American people. You assumed they were ignorant. You lied to our faces and thought we wouldn't notice. We did. On November 2, 2010, you will join the masses of unemployed you helped to create. America is Rising.
I am an American and I will not go down without a fight! You will not take my freedom from me! This is my America and My America is Rising!
An American Citizen, Todd Transmeier
(I did not create this video, but expresses my anger very well.)
Of the seven of the Colorado Congressional delegation to the House of Representatives, five of them voted against the people and approved the Democratic Party National Health Care Plan.
Those who voted for the plan Diana DeGette (District 1), Betsy Markey (District 4), Ed Perlmutter (District 7), Jared Polis (District 2), John Salazar (District 3).
Two that I really would like to give attention to; Betsy Markey and John Salazar. Betsey Markey started out this process opposed to health care, then ended up voting for the heath care bill. I will be looking in the coming days and weeks to see what kind of special deal she got from Obama and Pelosi.
John Salazar on the other hand, submitted to congressional leadership like a newborn pup. No talk of a special deal, nothing. I mean if you were going to be voted out of office on the basis of your particular vote, wouldn't you try to get something for your district....hummm maybe not for your district, maybe you get something for yourself, say a cabinet post, ambassadorship, or head of the KGB. I'll be keeping a close eye on Mr. Salazar.
I really don't believe this health care thing is over. I will soon be making contact with Steve King and Josh Penry to see what we can do (or what has been done) to advance a bill in the Colorado Legislature that considers the forced purchase of health care unconstitutional because it is a states right, not a right of the federal government.
Democrats believe they have beat the system , beat the American people. It hasn't happened yet. 310,000,000 trumps 219.
As I was reading through the health care bill I started doing word counts. The following list is the word count of each select word in the Health Care Bill. The entire bill is 2409 pages long. The words are in no particular order, I put numbers is parenthesis to help distiguish the result from the search term:
penalty 125 tax 583 employer 465 employee 425 study 194 committee 198 board 278 council 100 efficiency 37 report 936 decision 103 amend 1555 doctor 17 nurse 154 social 787 fee 266 collection 91 grant 834 uninsured 21 Secretary of Health and Human Services 38 Congress 230 budget 69 Medicare 536 Medicaid 363 prohibition 44 penalty 125 application 491 physician 312 patient 658 Secretary 2955 requirement 614 compliance 101 documentation 19 abortion 37 grant 834 (2009) 2525 (2010) 340 (2011) 265 (2012) 198 (2013) 168 (2014) 242 (2015) 112 dollar 81 dollar limitation 7 Internal Revenue Code 116 striking 776 requirement 614 Insurance compan(ies) 2 (000,000,000) 35
Approximately 2 years ago I went to get a physical. It was kind of a baseline physical for my health insurance. I hate going to doctors so I didn't look forward to the thing. It was fairly regular until they got to checking my chest. The doc stuck the cold stethoscope on my chest and listened. Then moved it and listened some more. Then they brought in the EKG machine and hooked me up. After several minutes and some time for her to read the ticker tape of my heart, she told me of my irregular heart beat. At that point my doctor and I agreed to schedule an appointment with a cardiologist.
Within the week I had a appointment to have a little meter hooked up to my chest, which I wore for a day. The meter measured all my heart beats for a day. A couple of days later I had an appoint to visit the cardiologist. When I arrived at the cardiologist and I did a stress test and talked with the cardiologist. He explained that my heart does not fill up with blood completely about 6% of the time, which sounds like a missed heart beat when you take my pulse. When I exercise my heart beat is "normal" when I rest it beats irregular. When I go from exercising to rest I know I will get dizzy as my heart reverts back to it's normal beat. So I have a medical condition which is annoying essentially, no real threat to my life. After I visited the specialist, I visited my regular doctor again and she did the followup and explained what I just wrote and that there was nothing that I could really do about it, but to just be aware of the situation and take my time when going from exercise to rest (I figured that I would just forgo exercise all together, then it wouldn't be a problem).
So to sum up the situation; I got a physical, had tests taken, visited a specialist who gave me additional tests, then I had a followup with my regular doctor, all in the span of 2 weeks. Grand total costs: $500; the amount that I paid out of pocket: $110.
Let's take this same scenario and move ahead to 2028. Let's say Obama care was passed. First, I make an appointment to see doctor for physical...wait time 3 months. During physical, the doctor discovers irregular heart beat, schedules EKG, wait 2 months to get EKG. Schedule appointment for heart monitor to be hooked up ..2 months. Schedule appointment to see cardiologist....wait 5 months. Follow-up appointment, 3 weeks later. Total time to wait for diagnosis= 54 weeks.
In 2028, I will be 59 years old. Since, I will have only have 16 years of work left until I retire (assuming they move retirement age up to 75 to help pay for Social Security). The "Federal Heath Cost Control Panel" may find that as I near the end of my life that some of the tests that I took in 2008, are not as important as they as they would be for a 25 year old man.
The new Nutrition Guidelines (that were adopted in 2021) for Medical Care; states that because of my decision to not exercise and continue to eat cheeseburgers, that an additional cost will be levied on me, over the top of the regular visits costs as well as adding a mandatory 2 week wait time to have a physical.
The Federal Government also added the additional charges to every health care procedure as of 2025; the "medical professional recruitment surcharge". That being said, I realize how important it is to have a physical completed now, before I turned 60 years old, because the "Federal Age Requirements for Testing, go into effect, which would require me to get approval from the Federal Health Planning Board, and you know how long that can take.
After filling the required forms, I finally get to make an appointment. The day comes for my physical and I arrive at the B. Husein Obama Federal Medical Clinic. I see I only have a 5 hour wait time to see the doctor, I was feeling pretty fortunate. When I get into the doctor, they tell me that my condition, could be life threatening and I would have to fill out the "Request for Specialist (Heart) Form" and my case would be referred to the Cardiologist Diagnosis Planning Board to see if I meet the requirements to schedule an appointment to see the Cardiologist. I give up at this point realizing that because I already have a health classification of C- (because of my love of cheeseburgers) that seeing a specialist could be years down the road.
This is the thing I do not want to see...ever. Not in my America! Please join the fight to oppose this Federal takeover of our Health Care! Call your Representative Today...Yes it is a Saturday but call anyway!
It looks as though our Congressman is acting more like a Representative of the 8th Congressional District in California than a Congressman from Western Colorado. In an article in the the Pueblo Chieftain John Salazar appears to be saying he is in favor of passing of the Health Care bill, even though his phone lines were melted from calls from the opposition.
The article states that Mr. Salazar has not seen the cost estimates of the bill, yet he says: "I feel very strongly this will bring down the cost of insurance, We will have more competition and more transparency." Interesting he doesn't know the costs, yet he knows it is going to save us money, humm....
The article also says that the House was going to modfiy and pass the bill this week. We know that isn't true they are going to modify and pass only the changes to the bill. They are going to just going to "deem the bill passed".
The article states; "that Salazar argued (though I don't know with whom) that the wide range legislation would give 800,000 Colorado residents heath coverage through exchanges." I was wondering if these 800,000 residents are citizens?
The article states: He conceded that public polls show a growing number of voters fear the Democratic plan ultimately will cost taxpayers more money and raise health care costs. Salazar disagreed, saying opponents have encouraged that reaction. My reaction to this is...How would you know Mr. Salazar? You never take the time to actually see ½ of your district. The western portion of your district has no representation at all in Congress. We can not actually reach a person on the phone and when we mail you we just get a form letter of the Democrat talking points.
Mr. Salazar calls himself a fiscally conservative Democrat, "a Blue Dog". I disagree. I find Mr. Salazar to be more of a "Lap Dog" Democrat and the lap belongs to Nancy Pelosi.
Otto von Bismarck once said "Laws are like sausages, it is better not to see them being made." Recently we have been told that there are a couple of procedures that have "been done all them time" or "have been done for years". Yet strangely, nobody in the general public seems to have heard of these procedures. They are reconciliation and the Slaughter Rule.
Both are rules that the Congress has set for themselves in order to expedite the approval of legislation. I don't like that either party uses these types of rules. I have to wonder about an organization that can make the rules (or change the rules) for a situation in which they are the only participant. To me it seems like when we were children in the school yard, and if the game wasn't going our way we would say "That's not fair! Then invent some new rule that would favor you or your team.
It makes me wonder how many of these "hidden rules" exist. I will be spending some quality time studying these and other congressional rules. I don't like the idea that the Constitution can be "skirted" for the gains of a particular party or situation. I thought I would throw this video in in case you for got how a bill is supposed to become a law. I did not see "reconciliation or "Slaughter rule" in there anywhere....
How fitting that on the day of James Madison's (Father of the Constitution) birth that the Democrats are looking at ways to disassemble it with the use of the Slaughter Rule. This rule would essentially allow for the House of Representatives to "say" that a bill is passed (even though it has not) so they could pass the host of reconciliation amendments. This is a back door way to pass health care.
This rule violates the Constitution. In Article 1, Section 7 it states: "...But in all such Cases the Votes of both Houses shall be determined by Yeas and Nays, and the Names of the Persons voting for and against the Bill shall be entered on the Journal of each House respectively."
Evidently the oath to defend the Constitution means nothing to lawmakers attempting this "Slaughter Rule".
James Madison Quote: "A popular government without popular information or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce, or a tragedy, or perhaps both. "
If you live in Colorado, today is the day for precinct caucuses. If you are a registered voter contact your political party for your precinct voting locations. Here's the locations for for Mesa County, Colorado:
This last couple of weeks there were two different actors that said questionable things. First, Sean Penn said, "every day, this elected leader [Hugo Chavez] is called a dictator here, and we just accept it! And accept it. And this is mainstream media, who should – truly, there should be a bar by which one goes to prison for these kinds of lies."
The second one is Tom Hanks saying "Back in World War II,we viewed the Japanese as 'yellow, slant-eyed dogs' that believed in different gods. They were out to kill us because our way of living was different. We, in turn, wanted to annihilate them because they were different. Does that sound familiar, by any chance, to what's going on today?"
My opinion on Hollywood stars who say stupid things is, that they have the same right to say stupid things as I have. Just as I have a right to say the opposing view and not go to jail (this is where Sean and I differ). In Sean Penn's case he would like you to go to jail if you call Hugo Chavez a murderous, election stealing, thug dictator. I also have a right to not attend any of movies that Sean Penn has participated (usually not a problem). Sean Penn also has the same rights as I have and emigrate to Venezuela, I'm sure Hugo would be happy with Sean as a citizen there.
I like Tom Hanks, on the silver screen. Saving Private Ryan is one if my favorite movies (I love historical movies). I disagree with him that the war in the pacific was racist. We did not kill Japanese people because they were yellow or Buddhist's. We killed Japanese because they tried to kill us first. Just like we attacked the terrorists because they attacked us first. They did not discriminate when they dived bombed Hawaii and we did not discriminate when we flew Enola Gay over Hiroshima. Everybody was killed equally. We just did a better job.
I have a theory about Hollywood actors; I think that more "real world" experience they have, the more centered they become. Let me explain. If an actor grows up in a house where he was a child star or his parents were actors, they really have never experienced the real world. They never have worked so hard physically, they wanted to cry or tried to figure out what utility gets shut off because they don't have the money.
Just think about their chosen profession. The entire profession is to be the best liar you can be, to make people believe that you really are the character on the screen. Now look at their personal relationships, always getting married then divorced, married then divorced. The couples are so practiced at lying that they don't even tell each other the truth. It's kinda like playing pool with a carpenter your bound to lose because they know all the angles.
My point is just because they are "rich and famous" does not make what an actor says any better information. Actors have a stage that is all. If you believe what they say without question, you are the stupid one. If Sean Penn wants to be a socialist, more power to him. If Tom Hanks wants to think that World War 2 was racist, oh well. We don't have to listen to these people. In the big picture they are still just one vote. If you find their information flawed enough, don't buy their product. That is the American way.
Today they arrested a woman from Leadville, that is somehow involved in a plot to kill a Swedish cartoonist who made fun of Mohammed. Then we had the guy from Aurora that wanted to blow up a train in New York City. We have had the other "terrorist type" activities like the Columbine shooting and the recent middle school shooting.
It got me wondering what is happening (or not happening) in Colorado that doesn't seem to be happening in other states. I don't think I have any answers, just a lot of questions to think about...
Why do all these people seem to be from Colorado? Are we more lax with our vigilance here? Do we believe that for the most part no one from Colorado would do something so bad such as a terrorist act? Are we the type sort people that don't take any garbage from people so when we notice a wrong (even if the wrong is wrong) we do something about it?
Is it a mountain or climate thing? Are the mountains just a good place to hide? Is the climate similar to Afghanistan or Pakistan so the Muslim extremists like to come here and recruit?
Maybe we are just getting good at law enforcement. They did catch the two most recent Muslim extremists before any crime was committed. Maybe our cops are just getting good at catching the bad guys and the other states don't do it as well.
I was born in Colorado and have lived here the majority of my life. I love this state, it's beauty of both the mountains and the plains. I love the "rugged individualist" attitude I feel in this state. This is a new time from when we grew up, we need to be completely aware of our surroundings now more than ever. For those people who think terrorism cannot happen in your area, your state, your wrong. If it can crop up in Western Colorado it can crop up anywhere. So remember to be alert and don't let the bad guys win.
Alan Frumin is the Parliamentarian of the United States Senate. In 1935, the Senate actually did something correct. They made a full time position of Parliamentarian. The Parliamentarian's job is to advise the Presiding Officer on parliamentary procedure and on the Standing Rules of the Senate.
In a nutshell, Mr. Frumin's job is to advise Senate membership what's in their own rules. Rules like when a particular vote can take place and when it can not take place. When can you use Reconciliation or when you can not use Reconciliation.
Yesterday the Parlimentarian told the Senate that a Reconcilation bill has to make changes in a current law. The Health care bill is not law yet, so they cannot make a reconciliation bill until they actually pass the Senate version of the health care bill and President Obama signs it into law. So now the health care bill's status is all left up to the House of Representatives. Our current Speaker of the House already wants members to vote yes on the Senate bill with the promise that we will fix it later. Everybody knows the fix will never happen. Please contact your House member and tell them to vote NO on the health care bill. For those in Colorado District 3 the phone numbers for John Salazar are:
Washington D.C. - (202)225-4761 Grand Junction - (970)245-7107 Pueblo - (719)543-8200 Alamosa - (719)587-5105 Durango - (970)259-1012
On a side note about the Parliamentarian of the Senate...
Have you ever noticed how there is usually one person that knows everything that is going on in an organization? These people are always in the background always ready with the information. No one knows there names, but without them the organization would be lost. They are the little nerdlings that help everything run. The Parliamentarian of the Senate is one of those people.
These "Radar O' Riley" (from the television show M*A*S*H) types often go unappreciated. You may never know how the "Radar" in your organization helped you but they did, so say tell your "Radar" thank you and buy them a cup of coffee, that goes a long way when you need help on that next form.
First our Congressmen don't read the bills, now they pass them so we can find out what is inside. What is this? Are we opening Christmas Winter Solstice presents? Are we looking for the prize in the cereal box? Do these people really think we are that stupid? What a total farce this Congress has become.
A note to John Salazar...Do you really want to follow this crazy lady off the cliff?
As April 15 approaches and you are struggling to fill out those ugly tax forms I thought I would post my opinion on the Fair Tax. For those of you that know all about the Fair Tax this can be a little refresher. Those that don't know anything about the Fair Tax than you will be pleasantly surprised that taxation can actually be fair.
The Summary
It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities. You only get taxed on what you spend not on what you earn. No more tax forms, no double taxation.
The Examples
I learn best by example so let me give you a couple of examples...
1) Currently there is a farmer that has a peach orchard. He has a worker named "Joe" that picks peaches. When Joe gets his paycheck, he finds that they have taken out Federal withholding, Medicare, and Social Security from his paycheck. The farmer also pays income tax and Social Security taxes, which he adds into the price of the peaches he sells to the peach cannery.
At the peach cannery they buy the farmers peaches and put them in cans and sell them to the grocery stores. The business owners of both the cannery and the grocery store both add the income taxes and social security taxes that they pay into the price of the peaches. The customer is then paying the hidden cost of taxes from three different businesses and their employees. With the Fair Tax, only the end result (the canned peaches) is taxed. Thus eliminating all the "hidden" taxes in the product, and bringing the price down.
2) OK, so let's go back to the farmer and his worker Joe. We find out that the farmer isn't really ethical and likes to hire illegal immigrants. Then we find out that Joe's real name is ,and is an illegal immigrant. The farmer pays Jose cash under the table. Jose not being really "into" obeying laws of this country likes to spend most of his money on illegal prostitution and meth. Jose can do this completely tax free.
Under the Fair Tax, people like Jose and the prostitutes and drug dealers that supply Jose, would be paying the same taxes as everybody else in this country. They pay the tax when they purchase legal items at a store.
3) Lets make Jose an honorable guy again. He pays his taxes now and has a wife and 4 kids. Picking peaches is what Jose does while he is going to night school to try to become a peach farmer. His wife Jane can't really work anymore than she already does because everybody knows that a woman that has 4 kids is doing the work of 3 men. They struggle everyday to try to make ends meet.
You might ask how why we would want to penalize Jose for doing everything he can, to make himself better by giving him a 23% tax increase with the Fair Tax. There is a "prebate" system set-up in the Fair Tax bill. So people who are below the poverty line would get a check each month to help them pay for the taxes they will incur during the month. Plus the products Jose and his family buy will be cheaper with no additional taxes buried in their price.
So that is my poor attempt to explain the Fair Tax. This is a place to start a conversation. It is a good idea. You can get much better information by going to this website: The Fair Tax
The first Colorado canidate I am endorsing this election season is Bob McConnell. He is running for United States House of Representatives, Third Congressional District. He seems to have the values that my family and I seek in a candidate; honor, faith, thrift, hard work and personal responsibility.
When I first sent out my "Question the Candidates" e-mail, I was thinking that I would be lucky to get any responses. Col. McConnell's responses were the first returned and as I read the responses to the questions the only thing I could think was "I hope this guy get elected. That is what I'm looking for in a candidate."
The recent mini-battle on the Capitol Hill was with Pay-Go and extending Unemployment benefits. Sen. Bunning said that we could not extend Unemployment benefits unless we had a method to pay for the legislation, as dictated in the new "Pay-go" rules that recently passed.
I heard a conservative radio commentator say yesterday (He was a sub for Fred Thompson and I can't remember his name), that it was a bad move by Sen. Bunning, because it makes the Republican Party look like the "Party of NO". My question is why is being the Party of No, bad?
I think that is what this country needs now is a few people saying no. No more spending, no more taxes, no government controlled health care, no card-check, no bailouts, no more insanity.
The argument in this case is that we should help those people who are unemployed. These people cannot find a job and it would be bad not to help these suffering people. My answer is in of two parts. Yes we should help people in the short term, till they find another job. That is how it was intended. What I have a problem is more times we extend the benefits, the more dependent we become dependent on those benifits. Are there people out there that can not find a job? Yes. Don't kid yourself though, there are a lot of people out there that will not do what it takes to get a job, any job, because they are accustomed to the "free money". I know because I have had these people in my office during the last year, as I was hiring for a maintenance position. I had many people who would not take an offered job because they wanted to wait for their unemployment to run out.
Another problem is that they do not want to be "underemployed". If you were working for $20 an hour and became accustomed to that lifestyle, then you lost your job. You get unemployment benefits. Would you take a job that paid less than your unemployment benifits? You take free money to not work and not take the lower paying job and have to work.
During the Great Depression my grandfather used to go to the local feed lot first thing in the morning, and start cleaning the stalls. He would clean all morning and then after a group of them were done the feed lot owner would come out and decide who he could afford to pay for the work. Some guys got paid, some didn't. Grandpa did what it took to support himself, support his family. We are losing that in this country. We aspect the government or someone else to take care of us when we are down. There are many companies that were started by people doing what it took to "put food on the table" that are multi-million dollar companies today. People need an incentive and if you are just giving people free money there is no incentive.
So as for being the "Party of NO", I say good, I'm happy to be in that party. The problem is that we have been saying yes for far too long.
I am currently a member of the Republican Party. I am a member of the Republican Party because quite frankly I hate to not have a voice. What I mean is, when the caucus and primary time comes around I want the opportunity to vote for a candidate that has a chance of winning the election. I may reconsider that membership in light of a mailing, I received yesterday.
I received a request for money from the party, which is normal. The way that the letter was formatted made it look like a government census form. This bothers me quite a bit. The reason it bothers me is; I don't think that we as a party need to "trick" people into donating money or finding out information.
If you want me to donate money, fine then ask me to donate money and I'll decide. If you want to know my opinion, ask me I'm usually not afraid to tell people my opinion (hence the blog). But don't throw the word census into your mailings and expect me to be scared into filling out your questionnaire and send you some money.
We need to be addressing the issues and I know that it sometimes takes money to address these issues and get the right people elected. It does not take deception. That is the ploy of people who scam the elderly and uneducated.
When I get mail that looks "Official" it makes me cringe and I automatically distrust the sender. If you (the Republican Party) want my support in the future, you better be going down the ethical road, not resorting to deception.
With so much news over the weekend I thought I would bunch it all together.
First is a video of the "Head Queen of San Francisco", Nancy Pelosi, saying that Tea Partiers are "astroturf" but then she agrees with them, I can't believe anybody still elects this crazy woman... Pelosi is an idiot.
Next up we have the "White right" conspiring against President Obama. What about the "Black right?"? Are you being racist Mr. Farrakan? Farrakan is an idiot.
Al Gore surfaced over the weekend, writing an op-ed for the New York Times. Are you to warm....Global warming! Are you to cold...Global warming! Are you stupid...Global warming! Al Gore is an idiot.
Chuck Rangel is guilty of ethics charges. But he get's to stay in his Chair of the House's most powerful committee. Chuck Rangel is an idiot
Pelosi again TELLING fellow Congressmen to pass health care even if it means you lose your job. Pelosi is still an idiot.
White House wants "up or down" vote on health care, promising to use nuclear option. Obama is an idiot.
That's it for now hate to get to depressed on a Monday.
